A roundtable discussion about Harnessing Digital to Drive Online Donations was held last November 8, 2018, at Flatiron 1771 Restaurant & Bar, Uptown Mall, BCG.
Two of the latest innovation from the Aboitiz Group was highlighted: KINDer, an online crowdfunding platform that houses various advocacies in the Philippines; and Weather Solutions, a weather-oriented solution for business.
Aboitiz Foundation and KINDer
Aboitiz Foundation has been around for 30 years advancing business and communities by co-creating safe, empowered, and sustainable communities. In fact, in 2017, the Aboitiz Group spent P 455.6M for 1,863 projects that benefitted 613,580 Filipinos nationwide. The projects are implemented in their respective host communities like other corporate foundations.
On its 30th Anniversary, KINDer is developed to reach out and help communities or groups outside of their host communities. This aligns KINDer with the Aboitiz group’s promise of advancing business and communities.
KINDer, unlike other crowdfunding platforms, supports campaigns with social development agenda like civic society organizations, companies, and legal groups that needs funding support to be able to reach their goals.
Antoinette Taus, the founder of Planet CORA, energetically shared and discussed Planet CORA’s involvement in compelling advocacies such as #HashtagLunchBagPH and CleanSeas Pilipinas. If you are part of an NGO and would like to be part of KINDer, you simply need to send your project’s details or proposal through aboitizfoundation@aboitiz.com for review based on a set of guidelines. The review process may take 3-5 days and once you pass they will get in touch with you for the next steps to start your campaign with KINDer.
The donations received through KINDer are deducted (6-7%) for the platform and payment gateway partners. The funds are transmitted to Aboitiz Foundation through partner payment gateway which will then be pooled as grants to the legal group or NGO who implements the project.
The project partners are required to submit disbursement and status report including campaign status and stories from the communities. Aboitiz Foundation will keep you updated through their Facebook and Instagram accounts.

Weather Solutions Empowering Business
Weather Solutions, Inc. is the first social enterprise venture of the Aboitiz Group focused on using technology to provide weather-oriented solutions for business. They offer platform-based services that can help customers interpret weather data to mitigate operational risks and develop industry-specific solutions to boost performance.
They provide historical data, observation data collected within the last 10 minutes, forecast up to 7 days, and consultancy on how to use the weather platform for data analytics, artificial intelligence, and Internet of Things, primarily targeted for commercial customers.
These services benefit different industries such as retail, energy, agricultural sector and construction. Currently, Weather Solutions have several partnerships in these sectors: ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), Philippine Red Cross, SN Aboitiz and Meralco.
Through its various engagements, including WNI, Weather Solutions will create a robust and reliable data-as-a-service (DaaS) solution for its customers. This model offers a hub for rich and customizable weather datasets that people can use for decision-making.
Currently, the mobile app serves as a reliable source for travellers, commuters, small businesses and those residing in places most hit by typhoons. Weather Solutions is expected to provide more value in the app perhaps by developing it into a Waze-like app where people can share and send messages about weather conditions in their current areas or a platform where other applications can make use of the weather data for decision-making and planning capabilities.
