Do you find it awkward passing on a Father’s Day greeting to a friend whose father already passed away? For me, we and our fathers in heaven deserve a greeting, too. Why? Because we also celebrate Father’s Day, well, just a little different than usual.
I know that most of us encountered sending a greeting either accidentally or unintentionally to a friend whose father already passed away. I know it feels awkward but, don’t feel bad, all of us came from a “father” and I think we all deserve a greeting to celebrate and reminisce about how our father became part of our lives. It might bring back memories of happiness or grief. But we’ll never get away from the fact that we once had a Dad and that we used to celebrate Father’s Day with him.

So this is how we celebrate Father’s Day. We go to the cemetery every Father’s Day to offer flowers (a bigger one, because it’s his day!), prayers and talk to him the way we used to. You will see a lot of families gathering in the cemetery the whole day to be with their Dads. If lighting a candle is possible we would, else, we’ll light one at home. If ever we are not able to go to the cemetery, like when a family member is sick, we light a candle at home and then offer a prayer. Some may still be in grief, but for most of us, we are happy where they are right now, away from suffering and pain. The memories and the love will remain in our hearts.
Some of us post Father’s Day greetings to commemorate and show the world how proud we are of our dads. We also greet our friends whose fathers are still with them to rejoice and feel happy for them.
Keep sending those greetings of love and accept the greetings with your dad in mind. Like how happy he would be to receive these greetings from the rest of the world.
I would like to take this opportunity to greet you (if you’re a dad), your dad, your dad and mom in one a Happy Father’s Day. May you set a good example for your kids and always remember (I got this quote from Sample Room PH) that “Any man can be a FATHER but it takes a special person to be a DAD.”
Happy Father’s Day Everyone! Hope you had a great one! π
