REVIEW | Pyunkang Yul
Restore your skin’s ability to self-heal with Pyunkang Yul.
You must have seen these Korean skincare products in blue bottles. But what do we get from these products? How are they different from other skincare products? Read on to get to know more about Pyunkang Yul and discover how these products work.
About Pyunkang Yul
Pyunkang Yul’s line of cosmetics has inherited the philosophy and know-how from the Pyunkang Oriental Medical Clinic that specializes in skin treatments, such as sensitive skin and atopic dermatitis. Its philosophy is to promote healthy skin by restoring its ability to self-heal.
The ingredients are kept to a minimum that’s why you might notice that the product’s component list is a lot smaller than that of other brands. Only the safest ingredients with an EWG rating of 3 or lower are included to help minimize skin irritation while nourishing and moisturizing the skin, helping it to recover its intrinsic strength.
The first time I used Pyunkang Yul my skin felt uncomfortable, dry, or tight.
Take note of this: Drying is not a side effect but a result of losing your skin’s water-oil balance. This is the result when our skin becomes exhausted from excessive use of makeup and chemical ingredients. Since Pyunkang Yul products include minimalistic ingredients your face might feel dry as it starts to relax and revitalize your skin. After a month of continuously using these products, your skin will recover its natural balance and return back to its healthiest, natural condition.
What am I going to do? You can simply add artificial ingredients with hydrating effect in your skincare routine. Try to use hydrating products with hyaluronic acid or aloe gels. And please, drink lots of water. (Read more about The Real Basics to Achieve Beautiful Korean Skin)

My Pyunkang Yul experience
Luckily, I was selected as one of the reviewers of StyleKorean’s Try Me; Review Me event for Pyunkang Yul. I feel grateful and challenged to try these products. I am convinced that Korean skincare products are effective as long as you know the right ingredients for your skin concerns and the best way to get the most out of these products.
Let’s start!
Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner
Boasting a mist and toner in one, Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner quenches your skin’s thirst while calming irritated, red skin! This hypoallergenic, unscented, water-type toner that provides a refreshing breath of moisture for a greater cooling effect contains 91.9% Barberry root extract to soothe your skin and prepare it for the next stages of your skincare routine.
Barberry root extract helps skin temperature drop and calms sensitive skin. If you find your skin flushing and losing its moisture due to excessive heat, Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner helps cool down the skin and fill in moisture to smoothen the skin’s texture.
– Position the bottle ~20cm from your face and spray- Gentle pat to absorb
*Tip: Slip into your pouch and apply when needed. This particular item is light and can be used on top of your makeup
I apply this toner right after cleansing. Have you heard of the Korean 10-second rule? Do it as this will tremendously help you to hydrate your skin. As suggested, I tried spraying the toner 20 cm/8 inches away from my face. Yet, it feels like I’m spraying too much of the product and it doesn’t even land that much on my skin. I find it wasteful so I sprayed the toner at least 5 inches away from my face.
It is easily absorbed by the skin. It leaves your skin smooth and as expected on your first few days of using it, the skin will feel dry. But later on, flaking and dryness is gone leaving my skin smooth and more prepped up for my next skincare products. My sensitive skin went well with this product.
I also tried using this as a mist the last time I went out with my makeup on. As a mist, the suggested distance is perfect to avoid your makeup from smudging. I also noticed how my makeup stayed flawless until evening while using the Pyunkang Yul Mist Toner.
Pyunkang Yul Moisture Ampoule 100ml
The perfect adhesiveness texture Pyunkang Yul Moisture Ampoule will definitely help the skin keep its long-lasting moisture and increase the skin’s vitality. It also helps cool down the skin temperature with Milk vetch root extract.
Milk vetch root extract is effective in aiding blood circulation and is utilized in the treatment of a number of skin disorders. The modern medical explanation for milk vetch’s efficacy is that isoflavonoid within the milk vetch acts as an antioxidant by eliminating active oxygen. Its anti-inflammatory properties enhance the skin’s immunity and promote skin regeneration. Furthermore, the active ingredient, saponin, has an excellent moisturizing effect.
Suggested Use:
– Take out an adequate amount with the dropper
– Lightly apply on skin
– Apply twice for a more effective moisturizing effect
-Gently pat on the skin until its absorbed
Despite its viscous texture, this ampoule with a light herbal scent is easily absorbed by the skin. Do not apply too much of the product all at once as it may feel very sticky and hard to dry. Rather, apply a light amount first and then re-apply. Once absorbed, you will notice your skin feels soft, hydrated and smooth.
The first time I used it, I decided to add it to my night skincare routine. I find it super sticky the first time I used it. It feels like a gel and it doesn’t dry out fast. Probably, I’m applying too much. Anyway, I used it at night to help my skin effectively absorb my snail gel and aid in cooling my skin after a days work.
Try not to pull your skin to spread the ampoule, just apply a light amount and pat.
Pyunkang Yul ATO Cream 50ml
Pyunkang Yul ATO Cream is an unscented cream, that helps strengthen the impaired skin barrier, revitalize skin circulation system, and provides intensive nutrition on the skin. It is an intensive skin care solution for the inner and outer layer of the skin, especially for those with a special skin condition.
It is safe from cosmetic ingredients that irritate skin, including 6 kinds of parabens and mineral oils. Pyunkang Yul ATO Cream is certified to be a no-irritation product by the Korea Dermatology Research Institute. It only uses EWG 2 degree below ingredients.
Its active ingredients include:
50 % Lonicer Aflower extract – help skin temperature drop and revitalize moisture circulation system
Ceramide – strengthens damaged skin barrier and keep moist and nutrition stay in the inner layer of the skin
100ppm Peptide – skin vitalization for severely dry skin or special skin conditions
Azulene – recovers dry skin into smooth, baby-like soft skin
Suggested Use
-Squeeze an appropriate amount of this cream on your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin.
-Gently apply it using fingers from the center to the border.
-Press your face quite softly using palms for absorption.
-You can reapply to dry regions.
What I like about this ATO Cream is that it is easily absorbed by the skin compared to other ATO creams in the market. Pyunkang Yul ATO Cream doesn’t feel thick and shiny on the skin. It provides moisture on the skin and can actually replace your moisturizer. It is safe for babies, too. If you have dry patches, you may re-apply the product in this area to help revitalize your skin.
Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream (1ml X 50ea)
Pyunkang Yul Eye Cream helps refresh and rejuvenate the skin around the eyes. It is the result of PyunKang Korean Medicine Skin Laboratory’s study on the skin around the eyes. They have made strenuous efforts to create a highly nourishing and highly-enriching product that maintains the freshness and quality of ingredients. It is intended to be a one pack a day therapeutics. A double aluminum film is used to prevent oxidation, seal in moisture and keep its freshness.
It’s active ingredients includes:
Milk Vetch Root extract
Ginseng extract
Shea Butter
Suggested Use:
-Apply every evening, gently spread on wrinkles or darkening areas.
WAIT! This is not just your regular eye cream!
You can also use this as a nutritional essence for dry, cracked lips. It can also be mixed with cream and foundation.
One pack contains more than what you can consume in one day. I use only a pea-size for each eye because it really has thick consistency enough to keep the moisture on the skin around your eyes. Apply it with your ring finger to avoid too much pressure in this delicate part of your skin. I tried using this in the morning, I don’t feel like putting it all around my eyes, I prefer applying it under my eye and on the sides where you usually develop crows feet.
I did not notice any significant change in terms of lightening dark circles or reduce puffiness. But it really works well in moisturizing the skin around the eyes.
Since you have a lot of product in one pack, I tried using it on my cracked lips. It’s really red that time and it’s really amazing how this cream relieved the redness and dryness of my lips.
I don’t like its scent, it smells like plastic. Yet, the scent seems to disappear after spreading the cream.
Overall, Pyunkang Yul products deliver and has chosen a slow yet effective solution to ensure the skin returns to its healthiest natural state. It is not like other products with instant results. If you opt to treat your skin as natural as possible, Pyunkang Yul is the best choice for you. It is recommended for those with sensitive skin or has special skin conditions. In all fairness to this line of product, I have not experienced any skin irritation aside from drying that is expected as skin’s initial reaction to this product. All you have to do is to believe in the process and you will get your natural healthy skin back.
