You must have heard a lot of good reviews about Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++, one of the exclusive products from Althea, and been itching to buy one for yourself. I got excited, too.
I’m very lucky to be part of the Althea Angels community and be one of the first to try Althea’s newly released products. Spread Your Wings – Althea Angels (FINALLY, I’M AN ANGEL!)
If you’re following me on Instagram, you must have seen my first impression post about Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++. Things didn’t go well on me but I do believe that a product’s reaction may vary depending on the skin type, product combinations and skin sensitivity.
I’m optimistic that this product will work wonders to most of you. When things don’t work for me as expected, it gives me more reason to review a product to know the reason why. So, let’s start!
Here’s my first impression post on Instagram
Here’s what Althea has to say about Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++
Shield your skin from the sun’s rays and give it some petal protection with Althea’s Petal Velvet Sunaway! Ultra lightweight, this invisible sunscreen is formulated with with a moisturizing formula that plumps the skin and Damask rose extracts, ensuring that your skin stays fresh and hydrated throughout the day without any streakiness or a white cast. It has an SPF of 50+ and PA++++, so your skin’ll be kept protected all day. As part of the Petal Velvet line, it also contains micro-powder particles that give you a smooth, petal-like complexion.
This is really promising! The fact that this product provides sun protection of SPF 50+ and PA++++.
UV Protection
Let me share with you the difference of UVA and UVB and how SPF and PA levels address these harmful effects of sun exposure.
UVA causes skin ageing and damage as it penetrates deeply on the skin while UVB causes sunburn that may lead to skin cancer. To protect the skin from UVA, we need a product with high PA (protection grade of UVA) rating. The effects of UVB can be lessened by using products with SPF protection.
Don’t feel sad if you’re using a product with a lower SPF level because it still depends if you’re applying the right amount for the desired level of protection. For example, if you will apply a thin amount of Petal Velvet Sunaway with SPF 50+, you might get an SPF 30 level of protection. You might also need to reapply your sunscreen/sublock every 2 hrs when you’re doing outdoor activities.
Petal Velvet Sunaway has PA++++! The highest PA rating I saw in the products I’ve tried is PA+++. It also has the highest SPF level. Wow!
Ingredients
Here’s the complete list of ingredients:
WATER, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, ZINC OXIDE, DISILOXANE, PROPANEDIOL, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, DICAPRYLYL ETHER, METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, PELARGONIUM GRAVEOLENS FLOWER OIL, SALVIA OFFICINALIS (SAGE) OIL, POGOSTEMON CABLIN OIL, CITRUS AURANTIUM BERGAMIA (BERGAMOT) FRUIT OIL, ROSA DAMASCENA FLOWER EXTRACT, PEG-10 DIMETHICONE, STEARIC ACID, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, SODIUM CHLORIDE, TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, SORBITAN CAPRYLATE, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, POLYGLYCERYL-6 POLYRICINOLEATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, ETHYL HEXANEDIOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL
For me, the most notable ingredients are Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. These are the best ingredients recommended for oily and sensitive skin and are the only FDA-approved physical UV filters for sun protection. That’s another plus points for Petal Velvet Sunaway!
Yet, Stearic Acid is a comedogenic ingredient that might cause acne. If you have a nice cleansing routine, you might be able to lessen the risk of developing one.
TEXTURE & SMELL
Don’t forget to shake it well before opening! Due to its low viscosity, it might spill on your hand like water. This will also ensure that the ingredients are mixed well for better results. Petal Velvet Sunaway is easily absorbed by the skin and doesn’t leave a white cast. After applying the product, skin feels velvety and soft. It feels very lightweight and non-drying. The best part is how it gives your skin a natural shine that’s not oily.
In my first impression post, I’m not really sure how to describe the scent. All I know is that it smells like sunblock. But after smelling a lot of products with rose scent, I finally figured out the smell. It has the scent of sunblock combined with an overpowering smell of roses.
THE EXPERIENCE
Petal Velvet Sunaway SPF 50+ PA++++ contains promising ingredients and is expected to provide a great experience towards sun protection and fresh, velvety skin.
Unfortunately, some areas of my skin are really sensitive. I went through warts removal a few months ago and these parts turned into small red bumps. I also had a few pimples after a few days of using the sunscreen. Sometimes, it’s all about the combination of products that we use or the ingredients in each product. I’m using 3 more products to complete my skincare routine. So, make sure that you know the right combinations else you might get adverse reactions and of course we don’t want to deal with that.
Will I use it?
Yes, but I might avoid the sensitive parts of my skin. And oh, I tried using it with Petal Velvet Powder and it somewhat lessens the redness. I will also try using it with fewer products all at the same time or have a different cleansing routine while using it.
